Browsing the internet, We always see someone asking what the term PERSONAL LICENSE means., So I decided to write about the subject.
LICENSE FOR PERSONAL USE
When you purchase a product with this type of license, you can use it to print or cut as many copies as you want FOR YOU. I.e, if you are having a party for your child and want to use the file, all good, but you CANNOT SELL ANY PARTS PRODUCED WITH IT.
LICENSE FOR COMMERCIAL USE
“Commercial use is defined as the use of the digital design in any physical project, product, artistic work, etc, intended for resale or commercial use. (…) If you plan to use your Silhouette to create products that you will sell or use for commercial purposes, you must purchase a commercial license.” (Source: http://www.silhouettedesignstore.com)
There are two types of business license, the limited (where you can produce a maximum number of parts for resale) and the unlimited (where you can produce as many pieces as you want, no limits on resale).
It is very important to check that, regardless of the type of license purchased, YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO RESELL OR DONATE THE DIGITAL FILE ITSELF, but only the final product produced with that file, cut, printed etc, as seen in the following terms of use:
SILHOUETTE AMERICA: “Under no circumstances are you permitted to resell or distribute files associated with digital designs offered by Silhouette. (…) You can certainly use Silhouette to produce original designs for the purpose of reselling products made by Silhouette, as long as it is not a replica of an image offered by our company or its licensors.”
SVGCUTS: “You cannot sell the SVG or PDF files (…) We do not allow the sale of pre-cut kits for customer assembly. All items for sale must be completely assembled.”
MONICA’S CREATIVE ROOM: “You can't copy, share or distribute these files in any way, either electronically or by any other means. You may not resell or redistribute any files, through the Internet, CD or share via email or any other method. If you would like to include my projects in a collection, you can contact me for permission and information.”
AND DO NOT FORGET:
Whenever we purchase a product (whether it is free or not), there is an exchange relationship where whoever receives the product accepts the terms of use of the same (regardless of whether you have read it or not).
It works more or less like this, if you buy a refrigerator, connect it to the wrong voltage and it burns out, Even if you claim you didn't know, The warranty will not exchange the product, as this information is available in the manual.
The same happens with digital files, i.e., regardless of whether or not you have read the terms of use, By purchasing this product you are automatically agreeing to all terms established by its creator / seller.
The largest sites selling digital products have a link on their page where you can see what can or cannot be done with the purchased file.
